Ack! I can’t believe it! Summer is over and classes start today. It’s like Fall has just snuck up on me and ambushed me. In honor of Summer being over, I thought I’d do a quick review of five movies that I remember watching this Summer.
1) Indiana Jones and the Legend of the Crystal Skull
Seeing as how I haven’t seen any of the other Indiana Jones movies before, it’s not fair for me to base it on the originals. All I’ll say is, wow, that was awful. I felt like I was on a Universal Studios ride the whole time, it was like a giant cheese fest. Overall, it was everything that movies were back in the day… just today. This is not to say that movies were bad back then, it’s just the styles have evolved… and it looks like this franchise hasn’t. 2 stars.
2) The Dark Knight
Holy cats this movie was amazing! It was everything a superhero movie should be. It was pretty realistic, the characters were deep and complex, and the world wasn’t perfect. As I like to say, in most superhero movies you usually get to have your cake and eat it to, but in The Dark Knight, that is not the case at all. It is definitely worth seeing, one of the best movies of the summer. 5 stars.
3) Wall-E
Pixar movies usually make me smile. Wall-E did have me doing that for a lot of the movie, but it seemed really slow at points. I did like that the narratives was told with as little of words as possible. I will also say that Wall-E has some of the best cinematography I’ve ever seen, and it’s an animated movie! Not a bad movie for the kids, but just keep in mind that’s it’s not a busy action based film f. 3 stars.
4) Step Brothers
After seeing Semi Pro I was starting to loose a lot of faith in Will Farrel as a comedian. It looks like he is making a comeback though because Step Brothers was hilarious. There is all kinds of stuff happening in the background that if you pay attention, will make the movie even funnier. There are also a lot of great one liners to take away as well. It’s like back in the day of Anchorman where you would say lines from the movie when you left. I caught myself doing that as I left this movie, which was refreshing! Keep in mind it’s a pretty raunchy movie. 3 stars.
5) Tropic Thunder
I was very excited to see Tropic Thunder because I hadn’t really found a laugh out loud the whole time movie this summer. Tropic Thunder unfortunately was not that movie, but I did find myself enjoying it a whole lot. While Tropic Thunder had less LPM’s (Laughs Per Minute) than Step Brothers, I did like it better as a movie. Robert Downey Jr. is a fantastic actor and is hilarious on screen. The beginning and ends of the movie are hilarious, it’s just the middle part that tends to drag a little bit. Plus, any movie that can make me like Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey is a great movie overall. 4 stars.
What movies have you seen this summer? What did you think?
